For decades, the architects, engineers and designers of India have experimented and studied the technology and ways of the west. As a result of that we have a plethora of products, designs and buildings incongruous to the local climate and lifestyle. Globalization has created an absurd uniformity which is driving our societies farther away from the idea of sustainability. Our contemporary cities exhibit gigantic glass facades, extensively electricity driven thermal comfort systems, a mania for cultivating exotic flora with widespread turf areas and a slowly degrading traditional knowhow because we as a community failed to understand the nuances of its applicability.
